Who we are and what this policy covers

Got You is operated by GotYou LLC, a Texas limited liability company. We built Got You so the people who love someone can organize real help — meals, rides, check-ins — without anyone having to ask twice. Caring for each other means trusting each other with tender information, and this page explains exactly how we handle that trust.

This policy covers two things: this website at got-you.io, including its launch waitlist, and the Got You app itself. The two are very different — the website collects almost nothing, the app holds what your group shares — so each section says which one it is talking about.

If anything here is unclear, write to us at hello@got-you.io. The rules for using Got You live in our Terms of Service.

Account and profile information

When you create an account in the Got You app, we store a single profile record for you. In plain words, it can hold:

  • your first and last name, and your initials
  • your email address
  • your phone number
  • your physical address
  • your birthday
  • your avatar — the profile photo your group sees
  • your preferred language
  • your care settings — whether you are open to care being organized for you, and whether plans organized for you are approved automatically (both explained under Care plans and consent)
  • app progress flags — how far you got in onboarding, which in-app tours you have seen or dismissed, and which of your groups you last had open
  • if you have asked us to delete your account, the timestamps of that request — when you asked, and when the deletion is scheduled to finalize
  • ordinary record-keeping timestamps for when the profile was created and last updated

Your name is required. Your phone number, physical address, birthday and photo are optional — they exist so your group can show up for you well, and you choose whether to add them. If you also turn on text notifications, we use your phone number to text you — see Notifications and text messages.

Sign-in runs through Firebase Authentication, using Google Sign-In, Sign in with Apple (in the iPhone and iPad app), or an email address and password. Your password is handled by Firebase Authentication; it is never stored in our own database and we cannot read it.

If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple shares your name with us only the first time you sign in to Got You, and the email address it shares may be a private relay address that Apple forwards to your real inbox.

Your Love Profile

The Love Profile is how your group learns to care for you the way you actually like to be cared for. It can hold:

  • your favorites — meal, snack, sweet, beverage, color, self-care, favorite thing to do, and the services you like (your nail place, hair place, spa and so on)
  • your love language
  • the best time to drop something off at your door
  • important dates you want honored — anniversaries, marriages, sobriety and recovery milestones, remembrances, and dates of your own naming
  • prayer requests and praise reports
  • what helps when you are overwhelmed — and what you do not need

Some of this is tender information, and we say so plainly: prayer requests and praise reports can reveal your faith, and sobriety or recovery milestones and remembrances can reveal wellbeing and health history. Every field is optional. You choose what to fill in, and a blank field stays blank — the app never infers or fills anything for you.

Your Love Profile is visible only to members of the groups you share. How that works is described under Groups and who can see what.

Groups and who can see what

Your profile record is readable by you alone. That is a structural promise, not a preference setting: there is no directory of Got You users, and no other person — not even a group-mate — can open your profile record directly.

When you join a group, the app creates a member record scoped to that group, and that record is what your group-mates see: your display name, your avatar, and your Love Profile. Only members of that group can read it. People who do not share a group with you see nothing.

Within a group, your membership itself is visible — group-mates can see that you belong and what your role is (admin, facilitator or member).

When you post a message, send an encouragement, or fill a helping slot, your name and avatar at that moment are copied onto the content other members read. Those historical labels are frozen snapshots: if you later change your name or photo, past messages and filled slots keep the name you had then. "Jane brought dinner Tuesday" stays Jane.

Care plans and consent

Care plans, the needs inside them, dated helping slots and sign-ups all describe a named person's care — a group bringing meals after a surgery, driving someone to appointments, checking in through a hard season. Information like that is sensitive by its nature, so consent is built into the app in two layers.

First, a standing setting on your own profile — open to care — says whether care can be organized for you at all. Second, every individual plan needs approval: a plan someone starts for you is created pending, and only you, the person the care is for, can move it from pending to active. Helpers cannot sign up for slots until the plan is active.

One shortcut sits on top of that, and it defaults to on: auto-approve. With auto-approve on, a plan organized for you becomes active without the extra approval step — the app assumes the mutual care your group was made for. If you would rather approve each plan yourself, turn auto-approve off in your settings, and every plan organized for you will wait for your yes.

Because someone who loves you can start a plan for you, a plan's content — what is needed, and when — may be written by another member about you. The approval step above is exactly where you decide whether that plan goes ahead.

Messages, encouragements and read receipts

Groups have a shared message thread, and members can send each other short encouragement notes. What you write in a group stays inside that group — messages and encouragements are readable by that group's members and no one else.

The app keeps one small read marker per thread for you: how far you have read. That marker is visible to your group-mates — it is what lets a sender see something like "seen by 4 of 7" on a message. Opening a thread moves your marker forward; nothing else touches it.

Notifications and text messages

Got You lets you know when something in your groups needs your attention — for example, when you have been assigned a task, sent a message, or invited to a care plan.

Every notification is stored as a document in your own account and shows up in your in-app inbox. Depending on your choices, the same update can also reach you two other ways:

  • push notifications — on a phone or browser where you allowed notifications. To deliver them, the app keeps one record per device: the notification token your device issues for Got You, whether it is an iPhone, an Android phone or a web browser, a description of the browser when it is one, and when the record was last updated
  • text messages — only if you turn them on in the app. Texts go to the phone number on your profile. This is its own choice, separate from anything else you agree to, including the launch texts described under The waitlist on this website

If you turn on text messages, how often we text depends on what happens in your groups. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop them, or HELP for help, and you can turn texts off in the app at any time.

We do not sell your phone number, and we never share your phone number or your agreement to receive texts with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. The only company that handles your number to text you is Twilio, our messaging provider, and only to deliver those texts.

Product analytics and telemetry

This section is about the Got You app, not this website. To understand how the product is used and to catch errors, the app sends event records to our servers, where they are stored in Google Cloud BigQuery. A record can include:

  • your account id
  • a per-session id — a random identifier kept in your browser's sessionStorage, which lasts for that tab and no longer
  • the app version you were running
  • event details, including names as they were displayed at the time
  • error reports, including stack traces
  • related metadata about what happened

Records are written self-contained — each row carries the details it needs on its own — so a group's history stays intact even when individual records it describes are deleted. Your own rows do not outlive your account, though: when your account deletion finalizes, your telemetry rows are permanently removed — see Data retention and deleting your account.

The app also uses Google Analytics for Firebase, which records which screens and sections you open, the features you use and your role in your group (admin, facilitator or member), tied to your account id and to a random identifier it stores on your device. It never receives your name, email or phone number.

This website sends none of this — telemetry comes from the product app only.

Subscriptions and Premium

Got You Premium is a monthly subscription, bought only inside the Got You app for iPhone or Android, through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google takes the payment under their own terms — Got You never receives your card number or any other payment details. One person's subscription makes every group they are the admin of Premium, and the members of those groups can see that their group is Premium.

Subscription status is managed for us by RevenueCat, our subscription provider. When you sign in to the Got You app on an iPhone or Android phone, the app identifies you to RevenueCat by your Got You account id — whether or not you ever subscribe — and signing out ends that session. Our servers use the same account id when they check your subscription or grant Premium from a promo code. If you subscribe, RevenueCat receives from the store what it needs to keep your status right:

  • your account id
  • the store's reference for the purchase
  • which subscription you bought
  • when it was bought, when it renews and when it ends
  • whether it is active, in a billing retry period, or ended

Got You itself keeps one small record of your Premium status on your account: whether it is active, in a billing retry period or ended; where it came from — the App Store, Google Play or a promo code; when it ends; and an identifier of the last update RevenueCat sent us. It holds no transaction ids or payment details. Only Got You's servers write it, and you are the only person who can read it.

Premium can also come from a promo code, which gives three months of Premium. Codes are redeemed on the web version of Got You, never inside the iPhone or Android app. When you redeem one, we record the redemption under that code: your account id, when you redeemed it, whether the grant went through, and when it was revoked if it ever is. Only Got You's servers read and write that record. RevenueCat receives the three-month grant, tied to your account id. Got You staff who administer promo codes can see the email addresses of the people who redeemed a code. Promo Premium never charges you: it ends on its own after three months, or earlier if we revoke it.

The waitlist on this website

Joining the launch waitlist stores your first name, your last name, your email address, and — only if you choose to give it — your phone number.

Alongside those, we store a record of the consent you gave: the fact that you agreed, which version of the consent wording you saw, the page your signup came from, and a server-stamped time. Being texted is a separate opt-in on the form: where you checked it and gave a phone number, we use that number for launch text messages only. If you did not check it, your number is not used for texting.

Waitlist entries are write-once by design. Once stored, an entry is never edited — by us or anyone — because a consent record that can be edited is not a record.

To come off the waitlist, email hello@got-you.io and we will remove you. Removal is manual and happens on request.

Cookies and this website

This website sets no analytics or tracking cookies and runs no telemetry. There is nothing to accept and nothing to opt out of, because nothing is running.

The one exception to "the website collects nothing" is bot protection on the waitlist form. The form is protected by Firebase App Check with reCAPTCHA v3, which tells people apart from bots — and that means Google receives device and interaction signals when you use the form. reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Service providers

Got You runs on Google's cloud. Our service provider is Google LLC, through these services:

  • Firebase Authentication — sign-in
  • Cloud Firestore — the database that holds accounts, groups and care plans
  • Cloud Functions — server-side operations like account deletion
  • Firebase Hosting — serving this website and the app
  • Firebase App Check with reCAPTCHA — bot protection on the waitlist form
  • Google Cloud BigQuery — telemetry storage
  • Google Analytics for Firebase — product usage analytics
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivering push notifications

Text messages and email are sent through Twilio Inc., our messaging provider. Twilio receives only what it needs to deliver each one: the phone number or email address and the message itself.

Subscription status and Premium entitlements are managed by RevenueCat, Inc., our subscription provider — see Subscriptions and Premium. Payments for a subscription are processed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play, under their own privacy policies.

Everything else is stored and processed on Google Cloud infrastructure.

Data retention and deleting your account

We keep your information for as long as you have an account. Deleting your account starts in the app: Settings → Delete account. That schedules your deletion thirty days out — nothing is deleted yet. While the deletion is scheduled, your account is set aside on a deletion-scheduled screen rather than the normal app.

You can change your mind at any point inside those thirty days: choose Reactivate and your account comes back exactly as it was.

Once the thirty days pass, a daily job permanently deletes your profile and your content, your BigQuery telemetry rows, and your sign-in account. Groups where you were the only admin are deleted with you; in groups that carry on without you, your member record is anonymized.

Deleting your Got You account removes our record of your Premium status, but it does not cancel a subscription — Apple and Google bill it, so cancel it in the App Store or Google Play first. RevenueCat's record of your purchases, and the record of any promo code you redeemed, remain after your account is deleted.

Two things remain afterwards. First, a tombstone record — a marker holding no personal information, only that an account existed and when it was deleted. Second, content already woven into other members' records and group history: the frozen name labels on past messages and filled slots, described under Groups and who can see what.

Children

You must be at least 13 years old to have a Got You account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and if we learn that we have, we delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us at hello@got-you.io and we will take care of it.

Your choices

You stay in charge of what Got You holds about you:

  • edit or remove any profile or Love Profile field in the app, at any time — a cleared field is gone from what your groups see
  • turn open-to-care or auto-approve off in your settings
  • turn push notifications off in your device or browser settings, and text messages off in the app — or reply STOP to any text
  • leave a group whenever you choose
  • manage or cancel Premium in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings — Premium from a promo code ends on its own after three months
  • delete your account — see Data retention and deleting your account
  • come off the waitlist by emailing us — see The waitlist on this website

For anything else — a question, a correction, a request about your information — write to hello@got-you.io and a person will answer.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the last-updated date at the top changes with it — that date governs which version applies. We will announce material changes on this site or in the app.
